This belief is keeping you broke

business coach life mindset rehab professional Apr 08, 2025

When I took my first job as a Physical Therapist, I used to tell myself a dangerous lie…

One that kept me both limited and trapped.

“It’s not about the money”

But then I’d go home and have this feeling of anxiousness…

I was stressed about student loan payments.

I wanted to invest in myself or my business, but said I couldn’t afford it.

I found myself searching for the best deals on clothes or at the supermarket.

I hadn’t taken a vacation in years because if I did, I’d lose income.

I was worried about what my financial future would look like, only making the salary of a Physical Therapist.

So I had to be REALLY honest with myself at some point….

It can be about the money.

That doesn’t mean I’m greedy.

That doesn’t mean I’m a bad person.

That just means I had to understand that money is an important thing in life. Maybe it’s not the most important to you, but it’s a resource that makes the world go round.

And like it was for me when I was practicing, it’s typically the number one stressor for people I talk to.

So, let’s acknowledge that money is important.

Let’s acknowledge that we shouldn’t be doctorate level professionals and be broke.

Let’s acknowledge that we can be in this profession because we love helping people, giving back to the community, AND we want to make good money doing those things.

I was tired of feeling like I had to be a martyr, but I had to stop lying to myself if I wanted to change.

Money isn’t evil. You can do great things with it.

I had to rewrite the stories I was telling myself that were holding me back from the life I wanted to live.

Do you feel like your story about money is helping or hurting your financial future?

Start there and if you have questions, I’m happy to chat.
